Small Business Saturday

This coming Saturday, the 26th of November is "Small Business Saturday."

It is the day after "Black Friday" where people wait in line at big box stores and trample each other for doorbusters and bargains.

It is two days before "Cyber Monday" the biggest online shopping day of the year.  Apparently people spend a good portion of their first day back at work after the Thanksgiving Holiday making online purchases.

Here are a few things to keep in mind this holiday season:
For every $100 you spend at a big box store only about $40 stays in your community.  By contrast, shopping at a local small business keeps almost $70 in your community.  How much do online purchases benefit your hometown?  You guessed it!  ZERO dollars!

There are so many wonderful small businesses in our towns.  Don't forget to visit them this weekend.  You'll be glad you did and your community will benefit from your purchases.

Please shop at local small businesses whenever possible.

Many towns along the Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway are participating, including Ottawa, La Salle, Lacon, and Princeton.

For some suggested shops from my travels around the area, visit my Favorite Places tab.  I hope you have wonderful holidays and enjoy excellent service from the small businesses you visit this year!
