Marseilles, IL-Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall
I have driven Route 80 many, many times. I've driven past the Marseilles exit, and large brown sign that indicates that there is something important to see in Marseilles-The Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall.
Last weekend, while taking the road less traveled, I passed through this quaint little town of Marseilles.
The downtown main street was busy with people going to the eight restaraunts on Main Street, which I found remarkable for a small town of less than 5000 people. There were even more little restaraunts on side streets.
The town sits right along the Illinois River and has beautiful views.
The Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall is a site to behold. The Illinois River rushes by this memorial. While I stood looking at the names of men and women who gave their lives for our country since 1979, an eagle hunted fish in the river just a few feet behind the granite stones.
It is the kind of place that takes your breath away, and makes you feel as though you should whisper.
It is important that we take the time to remember the sacrifices of our troops. Marseilles, IL is a perfect quick trip to do just that.
And...I suspect with that many restaraunts in town you could get a feel for the local flavor as well!
